Wagon House History
Moved from the Fort Klamath historic site to its present location in the early 1900’s, the original hand hewn beam and wood floors will take you to the rugged days of the west.
Built approximately 130 years ago, the wagon shed, as it was referred to then, housed all the necessary tools and materials to build and maintain the Fort’s wagons.
Fort Klamath was a Frontier Military Post from 1863 to 1890, originally established to keep peace among the Klamath, Modoc and Yahooskin tribes. Another duty of the Fort was keeping peace between the settlers and the Indians. Winters were brutal, supplies were scarce, and day-to-day living was difficult at best.
The Local Fort Klamath museum, ably manned by First Sergeant Kevin Fields, is a great place to take it all in. Sergeant Fields is a wonderful guide for time travel and he’ll have you reliving the old west before you know it.
So if you like history, consider a stay at the Wagon House a chance of a lifetime.
Amenities
All Rooms Include…
WiFi
The Aspen Inn is in a very rural location with limited services, however, we do have free, reliable WI-FI, with an option to upgrade to an ultra-broadband service that allows for streaming.
Pets
The Aspen Inn is very dog friendly. There is a non-refundable $20/dog pet fee. See the Aspen Inn’s Dog Rules web page under our Rates and Policies section. The Aspen Inn is “dog-friendly” and requires that all pets be declared upon check-in. There is a $20/dog pet fee, due upon check-in. Undeclared pets will result in an automatic $50 charge. Also, see our “Dog Rules” web page.
Food
Depending on the time of the year you visit Crater Lake, there are from 1 to 3 options. In Fort Klamath (where we are located) there is a camper store and organic deli & grocery. In Chiloquin (12 miles southeast of the Aspen Inn) there are a few different restaurants and two local grocery stores.
Air Conditioning/Heating
Like most folks out here, we do not have air conditioning. In the summertime, the daytime temps can reach into the mid nineties. However, the night-time temps will drop down into the low fifties to low sixties. Each accommodation has at least a couple of fans, and there are good screens on the windows. Around here we enjoy cool nights, sleeping with the fans on and the windows open, listening to the sounds of the country. As for heating…we’ve got you covered! Each room has efficient electric heaters to keep you warm and toasty on those cold nights.
Cooking
Cooking is not allowed in the rooms, suites or cabins EXCEPT by microwave. We do have a nice gas bbq grill with an additional burner for a pot or pan. The grill is located on the cooking patio and is available for guest use until 10:00 p.m. Cooking odors are difficult to remove. Guests are responsible for a $150/night cleaning fee if management determines they have cooked in the room. An outdoor cooking area is available on the patio next to the office. There is a gas grill with an additional “stove-top” burner available, free of charge for guest use.
